On Friday and Saturday Trevor, Ben and myself finally made it out on a
backpacking trip up to the high Uintas. We left work around five with
hopes of being up to the trailhead with enough time to get to lake
Packard before sundown... That was a pipe dream. We left the trailhead
around 8, and made a couple wrong turns that set us back a bit. The
sun went down and we missed the main turn off toward lake Packard and
found our selves an hour in the wrong direction. So we decided to cut
the corner through the woods at 10 o'clock pm. It was thick woods, we
were sure we would run into wildlife and so Trevor and Ben both had
their loaded guns ready just in case we were attacked. Hah. It was an
adventure to say the least. We finally made it to camp by 11:40 pm and I
boiled water while Trev and Ben tried building the fire, but the wood
was wet, it took over an hour. Then we ate our dinner at 1am and hung
out til 2 and went to bed.
I slept great with all of my new gear, the
marmot tent, sleeping pad and Columbia sleeping bag. Woke up at 7:30,
ate some oatmeal, then tried out my water filter for the first time,
worked great.
We tried fishing with no success, so Ben and I went to
the cliff and enjoyed the amazing view of the mountain views. We
relaxed they and took a lot of pictures before we headed back to camp
for lunch. Then we took a nap in our tents.
After we woke up I started
packing up and we decided to head home, Trevor seemed a little rushed
to get home. He high tailed it on the trail, we saw where we missed
the turn. Some great memories. Can't wait to go again soon.
